HIBISCUS AND BUTTERFLY WEED, MACRO AND MICRO

Hibiscus and Butterfly weed: Macro and Micro is a silk wallhanging that combines multi-scaled images of two species of flowers using macro photography and images from a Scanning Electron Microscope.

The Hibiscus flower is in the Malvaceae family. The flower is perfect, (containing both male and female reproductive parts) and actinomorphic (radially symmetric). The Gynoecium has a superior ovary with axile placentation enclosed by the monodelphous staminal tube with the filaments of the stamen united around the style. Petals are distinct with bases adnate to the staminal tube.

Butterfly weed is a red–orange to yellow–orange milkweed (Ascelpius tuberosa). Corolla, hoods and horns are typically orange. Flowers are densely grouped in flat topped umbels. Each flower has five reflexed petals with hooded corona structures above the petals. $1250 72h x 36w
